Juveniles Operating Motorized Vehicles (Mopeds/Scooters/Dirt bikes/ATVs) on City Streets
The City has received several complaints in the past month of juveniles under the age of 16 riding various types of motorized vehicles on city streets. We would like to take this opportunity to address what is and is not legal.
Dirt bikes are not street legal for any age driver. They are not licensed vehicles for driving on the streets, and at no time are allowed on city streets or on any public property including but not limited to our city parks.
Scooters and Mopeds must be DOT registered and can only legally be driven by anyone 16 years and older with a valid driver’s license on any city streets or public property.
ATVs can only be driven by 12-15 year olds in Buffalo County (including Buffalo City) If they have ATV certification AND have a guardian ON THE MACHINE with them. THEY CAN NOT DRIVE ALONE. Any operator under the age of 18 must wear a helmet at all times. UTVs CAN NOT be operated by anyone without a valid driver’s license.
We hope that this clears up any confusion parents or community members may have. As always, we value the safety of our streets and community and hope that those that live and visit here do the same.
